Earn Extra Points with the NAATI CCL Test
If you're applying for a points-based visa to Australia, you can gain additional points by demonstrating proficiency in a community language. This is achieved by taking the Credentialed Community Language (CCL) test.
What is the CCL Test?
The CCL test evaluates your ability to interpret and communicate at a community level between English and a Language Other Than English (LOTE)—usually your native language.
This test is conducted by NAATI (National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters), Australia's official authority for translator and interpreter certification.
The NAATI CCL Test: What to Expect
The test is delivered online, Monday through Friday, and consists of two recorded dialogues. Each dialogue simulates a real-life conversation between:
- A native English speaker
- A speaker of your chosen LOTE
You'll be assessed on how accurately and naturally you interpret both sides of the conversation.
Tips for Success in the CCL Test
To perform well:
- Go beyond word-for-word translation. Pay close attention to tone, intent, and cultural nuances.
- Maintain tense consistency.Use the same verb tense as in the original dialogue and be precise with word forms and meanings.
- Take notes during the dialogueThis helps you recall details and avoid missing key information.
